5 Easy Tips for a Healthier Diet

I know that you’ve heard it from me and probably other healthcare professionals that Our Standard American Diet is a big problem. However, small changes in your diet can make a big difference! Here are 5 Easy Tips for a Healthier Diet:

1. Meal Planning

Meal planning is great for your health and for your budget. Take time each week to plan your meals with lots of variety. Sundays are a great day for that! Take a look at your family’s schedule for the week to know how many meals to plan for.

2. Time-Saving Strategies

Cooking meals in bulk is a great time saver. You can make plenty for leftovers and put them in the freezer. Using a slow cooker is a great way to save time as well.

3. Seasonal Organic Produce

Ba sure to use seasonal organic produce. For fruit choices stick with organic berries. Add an avocado to your salads once in awhile as it is a great fat to include in your diet.

4. Stay Away From Sugar

Make sure to stay away from sugar as much as possible. Sugar will lower your immune system and it will raise your insulin and leptin levels. Sugar also triggers cravings.

5. Good Quality Meats

Look for grass fed, grass finished meat and good quality organic chicken. Choose fish, but in moderation due to mercury content.
